What to Avoid When Lighting Your Home

What to Avoid When Lighting Your Home

Lighting your home seems like a simple task; you might think that all you have to do is choose your fixtures and bulbs and you’re done. Unfortunately it’s not that easy and there are things that can go wrong. Not to worry; we’re here to offer our advice so that your lighting project runs as smoothly as possible. Here are a few mistakes you should avoid:

Don’t Dismiss Dimmer Switches

Dimmer switches are a fantastic option for homeowners because they can help you save energy, which will help you save money. They also allow you to alter the mood in the room; you can turn the lights down if you’re having a romantic candle-lit dinner, or you can turn them right up if you’re helping the kids with their homework. Installing dimmer switches is a straightforward task and you could even set them up so they work in conjunction with your smart home technology, meaning you can adjust the lighting without moving from your chair.

Don’t Buy the Wrong Bulbs

Buying lightbulbs requires more thought than you might realise, so be sure to do your research beforehand. Decent LED bulbs might be more expensive initially but they’re well worth the investment because they are more energy efficient and will reduce your utility bills. However, they might not work with a dimmer switch. Make sure you put some thought into buying your bulbs; don’t just buy on impulse.

Don’t Choose the Wrong Size Fixture

An oversized chandelier will look disproportionate in a tiny bedroom, but it would look great in a grand entrance hallway. If you’re feeling inspired by a showroom, make sure you check the measurements of your own room first before you buy a new fixture, because it might not be appropriate.
