Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders was born in 1963 in Boxtel, Netherlands. He graduated cum laude from the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988.

Known for mixing innovative materials and techniques with references to well-known historical styles and archetypes, Marcel became a recognized force in the industry with his creation of the Knotted Chair in 1996.

Throughout his career, Marcel has worked with renowned manufacturers including B&B Italia, Bisazza, Poliform, Moroso, FLOS, Boffi, Cappellini, Droog Design, and more.

In 2000, he founded Moooi in 2000. He is a frequent designer for the firm and serves as creative director.

Marcel Wanders Lighting

His innovative, whimsical lamp designs have earned Marcel a global reputation. He has been the recipient of the “Visionaries” award from the Museum of Art and Design of New York. Marcel Wanders’ design pieces—including ceiling lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers, and pendants—can be found in design collections and exhibitions in the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, the V&A Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Central Museum in Utrecht, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen and various Droog Design exhibitions.
