Get to Know the Designer: Jacco Maris

“Making something out of nothing. Creating maximum designs from minimal amounts of materials.”

This is the basic concept that underlies the creation of the light features of Jacco Maris. His lighting designs are unique objects that combine powerful and exciting looks with graceful harmony and subtle elegance, and which are skilfully and individually handcrafted.

The Jacco Maris Design Company was founded in 1994, in the creative Southern Netherlands. Since that time, they have endeavoured to combine design and functionality in the form of unique lighting.

All of their creations are based on metal and steel. These materials and the simplicity of their light designs are Jacco Maris’s most important trademarks.

Every light has been made by hand and include traditional pendant lights, decorative suspension lights, and designer wall lamps, ideally suited for both domestic and commercial interiors.

Over the years numerous remarkable lighting collections have been developed, each with its own distinct character these include:

Benben - The stack of five different elements forms a contemporary totem and characterises the design of the new Benben collection. These lights create a playful look and feel. This hanging lamp is beautiful on its own or as a group forming a superb art piece.

Solo - With its minimalist design, Solo does not outspokenly call attention to itself, but in all its purity it has a quiet presence. Each luminaire is cast and polished by hand, which makes each one unique. The sand like texture gives the lamp a warm, natural appearance and the halogen reflector provides a pleasant, diffused light. An interesting snippet of information is that the collection is an ode to Jacco Maris’s dog named Solo. His personal paw print can be found on each piece.

Mrs Q - The robust leather shade combined with the carefully designed metal stand characterise this charming lady in the Jacco Maris collection. The peculiarity of Mrs.Q is in the details; the apparent simplicity of the base, the special colour combination and its leather finish, give this lamp a timeless, organic look and feel.

Montone - The collection of Montone light designs are striking and graceful, featuring continuous, twisting shapes that create an enchanting effect. There are options available in this collection, such as a hanging lamp, ceiling lamp, wall lamp, standing lamp or table lamp.
