DCW Editions Mantis BS4 L Ceiling Light

Description

The Mantis BS4 L is a longer length version of the BS4 contemporary ceiling light designed by Bernard Schottlander in 1951. Schottlander created the Mantis series of lamps using a clever system of counterweights that appear to defy the laws of gravity and has 360-degree rotational movement to create ambient lighting.

The shade is also very unique. Like an acrobat suspended in mid-air, it is made from aluminium using spinning and chasing techniques that are a part of the metalworker’s inventory of skills, but to which he has brought his sculptor’s eye to create a helical movement in which the symmetrical and the asymmetrical are in opposition.
