The Shhh! Pendant Light from Ingo Maurer is an extraordinary light object with a subtle deception that embodies the core of Ingo’s design philosophy: the art of making unexpected connections and bringing seemingly opposite elements into a harmonious balance. True to the studio's legacy of irony and poetic deception, the design juxtaposes industrial protection gear with traditional illumination to challenge the viewer's perception. The pendant features a classic, globe-shaped glass lightbulb encased inside a heavy-duty pair of over-ear soundproof headphones (or ear defenders), as if the bulb is trying to escape the noise of the world. While it appears that the traditional bulb should be shining, the true surprise is that it remains unlit. Instead, the illumination is hidden entirely inside the headphones.
