The Chasen suspension light by Flos has chemically photo-etched stainless steel body and borosilicate diffuser, die-cast aluminium base and fibreglass reinforced polyamide ceiling rose attached to a pressed and galvanised steel ceiling fixture. In this version the light emission can be adjusted by means of a mechanical movement that opens the louvers, thereby varying the shape of the luminaire.
Patricia Urquiola, designer of the Chasen light, was inspired by an ancient oriental instrument, the traditional bamboo whip used during the tea ceremony, whose delicate filaments continue to change shape.
